As much as people love diving, sometimes they can’t find the time to keep diving regularly. The longer a diver spends out of the water, the easier it becomes to forget the basic skills you need to be a safe and competent diver. So before you jump back in the ocean, it’s recommended you take a Scuba Refresher.
If it has been a while since your last dive we will require you to complete a Scuba Refresher course with us before you can move on to your training course or sign up for fun dives.
How many Dives have you logged & when was the last time you Dived?
- 4-10 dives – not dived within 1 year
- 10-20 dives – not dived within 2 years
- 20-50 dives – not dived within 4 years
- 50-100 dives not dived within 5 years
The Scuba Refresher is required to make sure that you remember how to do buddy checks, how to clear your mask or retrieve a lost regulator, and assist your buddy in the case of an emergency.
Pool or Beach?
To do your Refresher you can choose as to whether you would like to do your Refresher in our swimming pool or in the ocean.
The sea is definitely everyone’s preferred choice but it might not coincide with your schedule very neatly, which is why we offer 2 swimming pool refreshers every day. Our first sitting is at 10am in case you wanted to go diving in the afternoon, or 3pm in case you wanted to go diving the following morning.
The plan for the Refresher Course is to spend some time with your Dive Guide going through a little Multiple Guess Quiz which will help remind you of the basics of scuba diving, the air spaces in your body, the equipment, and general dive procedures. You’ll then either head out to the pool or if you are diving in the sea then we’ll head out on the afternoon to do at least one dive at a shallow site around the island.
You’ll perform some scuba skills to show your divemaster that you remember your training, really concentrating on buoyancy control and air consumption and then if you are in the sea you’ll go out for a bit of a dive around the site.
Here is the basic schedule for the Scuba Refresher in the sea.
10:30 – Meet your divemaster and have a short academic session and talk about some of the skills you be required to perform, and some basic scuba theory and safety rules. Then you’ll head out to our large dive boat and your divemaster will help get you set up with the gear you’ll need for the afternoon.
12:30 – Meet to get on the boat which departs for a nice shallow beach or bay where we can find a sandy area to perform skills.
13:00-16:30 – Dives one and two. On dive one, your divemaster will show you skills underwater then will ask you to repeat it back to them. Once the whole group has properly performed the skills, you’ll head out for a brief dive around the site. Dive two will be entirely spent exploring the reef and getting to know the local marine life – what we call a fun dive!
17:30-18:00 – Arrive back on land to log your dives and enjoy a Sairee beach sunset.
Don’t forget! Because of the extra nitrogen your body builds up while scuba diving, you cannot fly within 24hrs of your last dive.
Are you fit to dive?
Scuba diving is an activity that requires a certain level of physical health. Read this medical questionnaire. If you can answer yes to any of the questions you may require medical clearance to enrol in a diving course. Contact us for more information.
